Hey! This week is inspiration week, we'll be posting everyday something that inspires us or that we like and think may inspire you :3

Día 5: Ilustraciones y deseos

Day 5: Illustrations and wishes

When I was younger I used to draw daily (being forced to stay on my seat, at school, for many hours straight),  and that is a habit I'd like to get back to. I'm lucky that my job now includes drawing and painting. One thing I loved to do back then was to watch shows at fashion week and pick some clothing pieces and draw them in girls matching them with different clothing. And what I did now is something I saw in a Japanese magazine, only they do it with pictures. They take what they call a "capsule wardrobe" or closet and pick pieces that work with one another and can also be incorporated with the things you already own in your wardrobe  So these are the pieces I came up with, that I wish existed and were in my possession.

Other things I've been drawing include a raven for a good friend (we used this to make a book for her, you can see it in our facebook page: Loup)

And 12 color (and 12 black and white) botanical illustrations. We are currently using them to make notebooks but we are about to release our 2014 calendar, and I'm super excited!

I hope you have a fantastic weekend! Stay inspired :)

5 lovely posts - 5 lindos posts

Hey! Today I want to share 5 lovely post I found recently. I have not been paying proper attention to my reading list and I want to change that and be more constant on my blog reading :3
¡Hola!

1. Gennine is an artist and illustrator and I love her blog, and I also love having a look at other people's work spaces, and she lets us have a look in this post. They tend to be pretty and very inspiring, unlike mine!

2. Do you guys follow hello giggles? Sometimes they crack me up, and I loved
this post about misusing words. She totally had me with this awesome phrase that is great in so many levels "One day, you were probably walking down the street, casually chatting with an old friend, and one of these words slipped out of your mouth. Before you can move on to your story about how Mufasa would actually make a very attractive human, your friend stops to correct your error, and suddenly, your whole life starts to feel like one giant lie"

¿Siguen Hello Giggles?

3. Good selection of blogs by our good friend Rous from Llueve Diamantina, she shares creative blog recommendations in her  "El directorio bloguero". They are mostly in spanish though!

4. As a major beauty blog/vlog fan, and with my permanent liking for j. crew and disheveled hairstyles I was bound to love this post about 'the secrets of the J.Crew undone bun' from Into the Gloss.

5. Wolf eyebrows is one of my favorite blogs, and I recommend this really clean and simple post about tiny terrariums made by the 10¹² TERRA duo.

I hope you like some of the things I liked! I'd love to know if you did and what have you been loving! Have a great day, night, whatever you're  up to ;)

Aren't these botanical prints beautiful? I'm currently drawing a lot of botanical illustrations for Loup. We are going to put them on the cover of our handmade notebooks and calendars and... pretty much everything ha. We're working hard! But looking for inspiration I came across these botanical prints, and they blew my mind. I am truly impressed, so simple and so pretty. They have inspired me to include something similar in our products :)

I will be sharing some of our Loup work soon but in the meantime I thought I'd share this ceramic leaf made by my mom (I'm helping her with the pictures of her facebook page, where she shows her ceramic and bronze work, please have a look and give us a 'like' if you do like it :), it goes along the similar nature print line of thought, I love it!
I use it as a little plate and put my rings on top when I take them off.

I hope this posts inspire you a little bit, have a great weekend!

The beautiful illustrations of Carson Ellis:
Las hermosas ilustraciones de Carson Ellis:
I spend a lot of time browsing through the internet, mostly jumping around from blog to blog, reading online magazines and the checking out the occasional web store, and I also spend a lot of time on youtube, I'm pretty addicted to the youtube channels I follow, I must say. And when you find a gem during those times, you mustn't let it slip away. What I'm trying to say is, that I have a terrible memory and if I don't save a page immediately in my favorites, I can spend several days trying to remember the name and browsing though inexact time frames in my browser history. Thus was the case with the Carson Elis:
Carson Ellis is a wonderful illustrator and I first found her book illustrations for the Wildwood series in an illustration blog, and after that, I completely forgot her name AND the word Wildwood. I looked in past posts from my favorite illustration blogs and typed in awkward searches of the likes of "wildlife" "wild forest" and such. Until finally I found another one of her illustrations on Pinterest and followed the link road back to her page :D
I will not go into her full biography except to say that she is Canadian, has a cat named Window (how cool is that name?), does the artwork for many albums including the Decemberists' (!!) and that she is super nice and replied to a tweet of mine where I confessed my admiration for her; you can read her complete biography (although you probably won't find that last fact in there :p), see her complete portfolio and read her blog here: Carson Ellis

Here are some pieces of her work, some of my favorites:
Aquí estan unas de mis ilustraciones favoritas:

Her use of grey scale never ceases to amaze me!
I would love to be able to give such deep dimension with very subtle tones.
This picture makes me smile :) Who knew they were such big painting in real life?
I would love to have a room that looked like this, so cozy.

I realize now that the images I chose are pretty much from the same color family, but if you liked them I strongly recommend you check out her page, you can find a lot more in there.

Thanks for reading us, have a great weekend!!
¡Que tengan bonito fin de semana!

I mentioned the Ponycat's pinterest, you can find it here:

Mary Blair
1911-1978

The first time I saw an illustration by Mary Blair was on a pamphlet that I got when I was in Tokyo. I bought a watercolor supplies and didn't realize, until I was back in México, that the salesperson tucked the pamphlet inside. On the pamphlet was an announcement for a museum exhibition showcasing the work of Mary Blair, and it showed a photograph of one of her Alice in Wonderland illustrations. I thought it was beautiful and the colors were great, my mom thought it looked familiar, and that she'd seen ads with similar drawings back when she was a little girl.

That's her! Modestly showing her work to a couple of nuns ;p

She worked for Disney for many years, and she did a lot of commercial ads later on. She began making 'conceptual art' for the films Disney was working on, Dumbo and The Lady and the Tramp. After that she did the color styling for Cinderella, Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland (some of the greatest looking animation films ever if you ask me!). Along with them illustration books were released, featuring her conceptual art (I would love to own some of those!)

After seeing her work I've read a little about her - she was good friends with Walt Disney and his wife, Lillian -, and she took some trips with them all through South America and helped with The Three Caballeros and created a lot of the art from the 'It's a small world after all' ride in Disneyland'.

What I love the most about her work is her use of color, but I also find her composition really appealing because everything looks like its got movement... I don't know how to explain it, but it, but for me it has got a lot to do with the fact that she doesn't outline most of her drawings and she does a fantastic work with curves, everything is very curvy and flowy, I just love it.

If you didn't know Mary Blair I hope you liked her work! And if you did I hope there are some images you hadn't seen before ;) have a great week!

Some of her cat food ads, how great would it be to see this today, advertising whiskas or something? :)
