Street Style Blogs

Carmila and I have been talking about changing our styles. She made a comment that gave me an idea, "If I had a lot of money I would have a completely different style" she said. So I suggested we should do it, plan our styles or at least think how we would like to dress if we could, and maybe little by little we could achieve it, by buying a thing at a time and pairing it with what we do like from our closets.

Carmila y yo hemos estado hablando acerca de cambiar nuestro "estilo". Ella comentó algo que me dejo pensando, me dijo "Si tuviera mucho dinero me vestiría completamente diferente. Entonces se me ocurrió que podríamos planear como nos gustaría vestirnos y así poco a poco podríamos ir comprando las cosas que necesitaríamos para conseguirlo y podríamos incorporar las cosas que ya tenemos que sí nos gustan.

To reach this goal I suggested we started to look for inspiration, blogs, stores, everywhere. And I of course, began by looking at all the pictures I have from my favorite street style blogs. That's when she and a friend told me, that they don't follow any street style blogs. How can that be! Street style blogs inspire me, and they are a must read.

Para conseguir esta meta sugerí que empezáramos a buscar inspiración y ejemplos de lo que buscábamos. Revistas, tiendas, blogs, fotos de gente en la calle, mejor conocidos como "street style blogs" y fue cuando ella y un amigo me dijeron que no conocían ninguno. ¿¡Cómo puede ser!? ¡A mí me encantan! Son indispensables. 

You may already be an expert, especially since these blogs are extremely popular and have been featured everywhere, from magazines and papers to every style blog there is. But if by any chance you don't know them, here are the best of the best (in my humble opinion), of blogs that feature other people's style (strangers, models, fashion-celebrities, etc):

Puede ser que otros sean expertos o por lo menos ya conozcan estos 3 blogs que voy a recomendar porque son muy populares y conocidos, han sido mencionados en montones de revistas, blogs y periódicos. Pero si por alguna razón no los conoces voy a empezar por recomendarles los que me parecen lo mejor de lo mejor (en mi humilde opinión), de blogs en los que retratan gente en la calle, desconocidos, modelos, celebridades de la moda, etc:

Scott Schuman: The Sartorialist
He is super popular. I have his printed book (published by Penguin) which I LOVE, and I have filled with post-its and notes. He was the one that got me into street style blogs. His layout is simple and his pictures beautiful.

She's Scott Schuman's girlfriend and probably my favorite of the three. Her blog is lovely to read (she has a great sense of humor), her photographs are great, and she does wonderful illustrations, she also  has a youtube channel (I'm addicted!) with a show called 'Pardon my French'

How to braid a 4 strand braid and what you can do with it

Como hacer una trenza de 4 y para que usarla

You will need:

Lo que necesitas:

Any braidable material, it can be either fabric, yarn, hair or lace, whatever you can think of! You can recycle old clothes that you don't wear anymore. 

Just remember that you need four long pieces, how long? That depends on how long you want your braid to be. Think about the desired length of your braid and then double the size of the material (lengthwise).

Cualquier material que se pueda trenzar, puede ser tela, estambre o encaje, ¡lo que se te ocurra! puedes reciclar alguna ropa que ya no uses. 

Sólo recuerda que tienen que ser cuatro pedazos largos. ¿ qué tan largos? Eso depende de que quieras hacer con tu trenza, pero más o menos calcula el doble del largo que quieras tu trenza.

*We did ours with different colors, so it'd be easier to follow, but you can do it with one color or with a pattern if you prefer (;

1. Tie all the pieces together, in this case the yarn in each color, and secure them with something (we recommend a safety pin)

2. Take the one in the far right (orange), over the one in the middle right (pink). 

3. Take the middle left one (green), over the far left one (blue).

4. And the one in the new middle left (blue), over the new middle right one (orange).  

 

*Nosotros lo hicimos con colores para que fuera más fácil de entender, pero lo puedes hacer de uno sólo o con un estampado si prefieres(;

1.- Amarra juntos los cuatro pedazos de estambre (en este caso) y aseguralos con algo ( puedes hacerlo con un imperdible [un segurito])

2.- Pasa el estambre naranja por encima del rosa.

3.- Pasa el verde por encima del azul.

4.- Pasa el azul por encima del naranja.

5.  Repeat the last steps. Far right over the middle right, middle left over the far left, and new middle left over new middle right. (In colors that would be pink over blue, orange over green and green over pink)

* You have to repeat this steps until you reach your desired length.  

 

5.- Aqui vuelve a empezar lo mismo. Pasa el rosa por encima del azul. (Después pasarías el naranja encima del verde y el verde encima del rosa)

* Tienes que repetir los mismos pasos hasta que tengas una trenza del largo que necesitas.

Done! You have a four strand braid (;

Now what can you use it for?

¡Listo! tienes una trenza de 4(;

Ahora, ¿qué puedes hacer con ella?

1. Use it as a hairband, simple and cute (;

1.- Puedes usarla como una valerina, simple y lindo(;

2. Use it as a belt, this is our favorite (:

2.- Puedes usarla como cinturón. Ésta es mi favorita(:

Ésta fue la trenza que usé de cinturón para mi vestido, ¿recuerdan?. Sino, lo pueden ver  aquí(;

3. Forget fabric and use your hair! Try doing this kind of braid in your hair and you'll see how you won't want to go back to 3 strand braids after that!

3.- Olvidense de la tela ¡y usen su pelo! Prueben hacer este tipo de trenza en su pelo, verán que no querran volver a las trenzas normales después!
