Una semana de inspiración: Día 1, lecturas.

¡Hola! Esta semana vamos a tener un post diferente cada día sobre las cosas que nos inspiran o que nos gustan y pueden inspirar a quien pase por nuestro blog :3 

Día 1: Lectura para empezar el otoño

Day 1: Some reads for the beginning of Fall

Estoy leyendo Nine Stories de J.D. Salinger y cada vez que lo abro me pregunto ¿Porqué nunca lo había leído? Tengo estas ediciones de 1980 que son de mi mamá y siempre han estado en mi casa. Son viejas, las páginas son amarillentas (del color ideal, si me lo preguntan) y huelen muy dulce. En esta misma edición leí hace 10 años (santo dios), The Catcher in the Rye (el guardián en el centeno), desde entonces ya lo he leído dos veces y probablemente lo lea muchas más, pero caí en el error de concentrarme únicamente en él porque es conocido por todos y hay camisetas y menciones por doquier, dejando en la sombra a estos dos libros, pero ahora que por fin empecé estoy disfrutandolo muchísimo y la forma de escribir de Salinger es igual de maravillosa que en su libro más famoso. En cuanto acabe voy a empezar con Franny and Zooey. 

El libro Muji: un día me quedé en casa de un amigo en Puebla y en la mañana hojeé un libro que tenía acerca de Muji, y desde entonces quería un libro de Muji. Muji (para los que no conozcan) es una marca japonesa que ahora es un emporio internacional con montones de productos, yo tengo algunos (el recipiente con lapices de la foto es de Muji). Se distinguen por ser muy funcionales, ecológicos y minimalistas. En el libro hablan de la historia de la marca la evolución de sus productos y enseñan fotos de sus tiendas sus cosas y su publicidad (que es mi cosa favorita). Mi edición es nacional y no está tan completa como la que tenía mi amigo, pero aún así la estoy disfrutando mucho. 

El libro de abajo a la izquierda es una de las encuadernaciones que hacemos en Loup, mi pequeña empresa con un amigo.

I'm currently reading J. D. Salinger Nine Stories, and everytime I open it I ask myself "Why did I wait so long to read this?" I read Catcher in the Rye ten years ago (yikes!), and since then I've read it twice, but I got lost around the fame of that book and forgot to read the other works of Salinger. Now that I am, I'm enjoying them immensely and as soon as I finish Nine Stories I'll start with Franny and Zooey. I have all of these in 1980's editions and the pages are the perfect yellowy shade and they smell sweet and lovely.

I leafed through a book about Muji at a friend's house, and I've been looking for one ever since. He bought his book at the Moma, and I couldn't get that one, but instead found this national edition, and it covers some of the same topics (for those who don't know Muji is a japanese brand that is known for their minimalist aesthetics, practicality and eco approach, they do thousands of different products. The pencil case shown in the photo is from Muji), the brand's ad campaigns, product development and brand history. I am enjoying it quite a bit, and I specially love some of their advertisements.

The open book at the bottom is one of the notebooks we handmake for our small business  Loup. 

Compré un mueble específicamente para acomodar mi colección de revistas y volví a leer varias de mis favoritas: Esta es una de mis dos revistas "V" (en México no la venden :( ), me encanta la portada y que es enorme.

I've just bought a bookcase specifically for storing my magazine collection and while organizing them I re-read some of my favorites. I love V magazine (you can't get it in Mexico sadly), I love this cover and the fact that the issues are so big.

When I was very young I thought Zink magazine was awesome, and my favorite editorials were beauty stories like the ones above. 

Mi revista favorita en el mundo mundial es Lula, y me imagino que de muchas otras personas también porque es hermosa y todo lo que escriben me interesa. La ropa, el maquillaje y la fotografía son todo lo que busco en una revista. Es un problema conseguirla pero siempre que se que alguien viaja se la encargo.

Lula my favorite magazine in the whole wide world, I'm sure a lot of girls share this preference, because it's beautiful. The clothes, makeup, hair and photography are everything I wish for in a magazine and everything they write about interests me. It is a pain to get it, but everytime I know of someone travelling I ask them to bring me back a copy.

Una revista que compraba religiosamente y lamenté tragicamente cuando fue cancelada fue ElleGirl  (también lamenté cuando dejaron de traer "W" a México). Creí que tantos años después de leerlas por primera vez, iba a pensar que eran feas o que no eran tan divertidas como recordaba, ¡pero no es cierto! Son lo máximo, es una lástima que la hayan cancelado y que si debo decirlo que buen gusto tenía para revistas de adolescentes cuando era yo una de ellas :p 

Lo que más me gusta de la revista es cómo está escrita, hay muchísimas cosas chistosas, se burlaban de los clichés, escribían sobre cosas que ninguna otra revista de moda escribía y su slogan era "atrevete a ser diferente" Y bueno podría seguir hablando de sus méritos pero esto se está haciendo muy largo, mejor les explico que la foto es la lista de deseos de las editoras y junto a cada elección hay una pequeña ilustración que retrata a quien lo eligió y junto con una pequeña descripción del objeto.

I was an avid follower of ElleGirl magazine back in the day, and I was devastated the day it was cancelled. I thought maybe today I wouldn't found it as interesting, but it seriously was the best teen magazine I've ever seen, it had a great sense of humor, and they were so original and talked about things no one else talked about! (their slogan was 'Dare to be different') The spread above is the editor's wishlist, where the editors chose an object or piece of clothing and beside a tiny illustration portrait of themselves said why they loved it, for example the pages above say "Finally a cute swimsuit my father and I can agree on" and "I just entered ballet lessons, so even if I high kick myself in the face I'll still look the part" beside the tutu, and "this sweater solves my lifelong dilemma of having to chose what color to wear" of the rainbow sweater. Isn't that great?

Esta revista es una revista japonesa que iba a tirar mi maestra de japonés (otra vez las buenas páginas amarillentas :). Es muy vieja y tiene unas fotos muy curiosas y estas ilustraciones de gatos que me encantan (el letrero verde dice "Los gatos son gatos después de todo").

This is a very old japanese magazine that my teacher wanted to throw away - those yellowy pages again! -  It has a most curious selection of pictures and these cat illustrations which I love (the green title says "Cats are cats after all")

Recently I've been getting a healthy dose of 1920s. I read the Great Gatsby a few months ago and fell in love with it, its writing is a delight and the story had me captivated. Lucky me, I hadn't seen the movie before so everything was a surprise, but now I want to see it (especially because of the clothes because I can't really imagine how they could've done the book justice), and I'm totally looking forward to see the new one from director Bez Luhrmann starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan. Since I loved the Great Gatsby so much I started reading The Beautiful and Damned, and will continue to read Tender is the Night, Scott Fitzgerald is rapidly climbing positions in my favorite writers list. 

Recientemente he estado viendo muchas cosas que tienen que ver con los años veintes. Primero leí the Great Gatsby hace unos meses y me enamoré. Me encanta como escribe Scott Fitzgerald y la historia me cautivó, por suerte no había visto la película entonces la historia me sorprendió como debía. Ahora quiero ver la película (más que nada para ver los disfraces porque no creo que puedan transmitir la historia como se debe... aunque quien sabe quizas me equivoco), y tengo mucha ilusión de ver la nueva que va a salir del director Bez Luhrmann, con Leonardo DiCaprio y Carey Mulligan. Desde que leí the Great Gatsby me quedé con ganas de seguir leyendo cosas de Fitzgerald así que ahora estoy leyendo The Beautiful and Damned y voy a seguir con Tender is the Night, poco a poco Scott esta subiendo en mi lista de escritores preferidos :)

After that my mom and I started watching Boardwalk Empire (created by Terrence Winter, produced by Tim Van Patten!! and Martin Scorsese, starring Steve Buscemi and Michael Pitt), and it has two of my favorite things, it's a period piece and mafia! And I am dying to watch Downton Abbey too.

All this long explanation was just to say that I have 1920s on my mind. 

Y después de eso mi mamá y yo empezamos a ver Boardwalk Empire (creado por Terrence Winter, producido por Tim Van Patten!! y  Martin Scorsese, con las actuaciones de Steve Buscemi and Michael Pitt) que tiene dos de mis cosas favoritas, es de época y es de mafia. Y ahora muero por ver Downton Abbey!! Así que resumiendo, estoy pensando mucho en los años 20s.

The streets of Colorado en 1920. I love that everyone is wearing a hat, we should bring hats back. I saw a very old movie and the lead character runs goes out in a hurry and two ladies comment "It must have been an emergency, he didn't even take his hat!", nowadays people can go out without a shirt and nobody thinks it's an emergency. Those were the good old days, when getting dressed mattered.

Las calles de colorado en 1920. Me gusta que todos estan usando sombreros, deberíamos de volver a usar sombreros. Vi una película muy vieja en la que el protagonista sale corriendo de la casa y unas señoras comentan "Debe de ser una emergencia ¡Ni siquiera se llevó su sombrero!" Hoy en día la gente puede salir sin camisa y nadie piensa que hubo una emergencia. Esos días eran las buenas épocas en las que a la gente le importaba vestirse bien.

These are a few things that have come into my life and I think they are awesome!

Above is a very old Scribe notebook (they don't make them like that anymore): Carmila bought it for me and covered it with this cute fabric. I love it, and the flower on top was kept and given to me by a very good friend as well :)

Estas son algunas cosas que han llegado a mi vida y son lo máximo:

Arriba está un cuaderno Scribe muy viejo (ya no los hacen así): Carmila lo compró y lo forró para mí con esta tela bonita. Me encanta! Y la flor que tiene encima la guardó y me la regaló un muy buen amigo :)

  I bought an album frame in New York, and now I regret not buying more! I have it on my wall currently displaying U2's October cover. 

Compré un marco para discos de vinilo en Nueva York y ahora me arrepiento de no haber comprado más! En este momento está colgado en mi pared enmarcando October de U2.

 

 My Catryoshka t-shirt!!! It is my new favorite t-shirt (along with my wolf t-shirts of course). It is the perfect color, I adore Matryoshkas and I don't need to mention my love for all cat things.

¡¡Mi camiseta de Catryoshkas!! Es mi nueva camiseta favorita (junto con mis camisetas de lobos). Es del color ideal, me encantan las Matryoshkas y creo que sobra decir que me amo las cosas de gatos.

My cute cat measuring cups ♥ So many people have asked me about them. I bought them at Urban Outfitters. And yes I am a little terrified of breaking them.

Mis hermosas tacitas medidoras de gato ♥ Mucha gente me ha preguntado por ellas. Las compré en Urban Outfitters. Y sí, sí me da mucho miedo romperlas.

 If I lived in the US, (or anywhere with a wider variety of magazines) I would consider myself lucky and unlucky. I bought Lula (finally!!! I hate having to read it online), Japanese Elle, Vogue and a magazine called Cinematic. They are great, but cost a lot of money. I would be super poor.

Si viviera en Estados Unidos (o en cualquier lugar con una mayor variedad de revistas), me consideraria afortunada y desafortunada. Compré Lula (por fin!!!! odio tener que leerla en linea), las ediciones japonesas de Vogue y Elle, y una revista que se llama Cinematic. Me gustan mucho, pero cuestan mucho también. Sería super pobre.

I wear this American Eagle necklace almost every day and my friend Ivan told me he thinks it looks like a bunch of black or raspberries, and I love that :)

Uso este collar de American Eagle casi diario y mi amigo Iván me dijo que parecen un bonche de zarzamoras o frambuesas, y eso me gusta :)

 

I am obsessed with the Penguin classic editions (aren't we all?) and I've had Wuthering Heights (because it's my favorite book) for a couple of years but now I have three more! 

Estoy obsesionada con las ediciones clásicas de Penguin (¿no lo estamos todos?), y he tenido Cumbres Borrascosas por un par de años porque es mi libro favorito, pero ahora tengo otros tres!

Un libro de las pinturas de John William Waterhouse. Es demasiado bueno para ser verdad. (Miren la nariz de melocton allá atrás, super rosita! :3)

 This beautiful fabric-covered box (where I now keep my small treasures), is beyond great and my friend Rapha gave it to me after he found it in New York in... (drum-roll please!): The garbage. Yup. And that was not the only awesome thing we took out of the garbage during our trip. This box was practically new, what is wrong with people!!!! But yay for me :D

Esta hermosa caja forrada en tela (donde ahora guardo mis pequeños tesoros), es lo mejor y mi amigo Rapha me la regaló después de encontrarla en Nueva York en.... (pausa dramatica): La basura. Sip. Y esa no fue la única cosa buena que encontramos durante el viaje dentro de la basura. Esta caja esta practicamente nueva, que le pasa a la gente!? Pero que bien por mi :D
