I was in the middle of planning a few "collection posts", nothing too exciting: papers, boxes, small notebooks. I've always enjoyed seeing other people's collections -unless is something super creepy - , but today I found something which I think is super interesting and I want to share it with you.
Vintage clothing, jewelry and imagery is something I see in blogs all the time, but today I dedicated a big part of my morning into seeing vintage makeup collections. They are amazing! I've seen tin cans and boxes of vintage vanity items and toiletries, but this collections go deeper. The collectors find and keep vintage makeup from the entire 20th century (preferably unused) and store them. They have the most interesting packaging and the colors and arrangements are very inspiring.
En medio de mis planes para hacer algunos posts de colecciones, me topé con una colección que me pareció muy interesante. Siempre me ha gustado ver las cosas que colecciona la gente (a menos que sea algo tétrico), y pensaba tomarle fotos a las mias (no es nada muy interesante, sólo son cajitas, cuadernos, papeles, cosas así).
Muy seguido veo blogs donde enseñan colecciones de ropa, joyas o imágenes vintage, pero hoy estuve viendo colecciones de maquillaje antiguo y me pareció increiblemente interesante. La gente no colecciona los maquillajes para utilizarlos, después de todo es maquillaje que tiene a veces más de cien años. La gente lo colecciona por los empaques, los colores y como fuente inspiración.
Lisa Eldridge (I've written about her before), made the most wonderful vintage makeup series in which she shows some of her collector items, talks about her favorite line Biba Makeup and even does a couple of looks using the previously unopened makeup from the 70s. I loved watching them, here are my two favorite videos from the series, the Biba girl looks:

I read the Big Biba and Barbara Hulanicki's (Biba's founder) story, about how exciting the store used to be! Famous people were huge fans of the store, Mick Jagger, Yoko Ono, David Bowie, Cher... Also the sad demise of the store. But its legacy definitely remains, and my favorite part of the whole story was that Biba (which was in London), was the first store in which you could try out all the products from the makeup counter without buying them, women would come without makeup in the morning and use the store products to get ready for work! The aesthetics of the brand were pretty special as well, Barbara dared to try new colors, and when she went to the factory where the products were made she described the colors she wanted as the colors of bruised fruit.

Leí un poco de la tienda Big Biba y de su creador a Bárbara Hulanicki, y de como la tienda se volvió una atracción de Londres. Entre sus clientes había gente muy famosa, Mick Jagger, Yoko Ono, David Bowie, Cher... Y también lei sobre su trágica clausura. Pero el legado que dejó no ha desaparecido y mi parte favorita de la historia es que fue la primera tienda en dejar que los clientes probaran los productos de maquillaje, entonces las señoras lo que hacían era ir en la mañana sin pintarse y usar los productos de prueba para maquillarse para el trabajo. Además de que su estética era super inovadora y fue la primera en arriesgarse a usar colores diferentes (cuando fue a la fábrica describió los colores que quería como "color de fruta maltratada" . I saw the Max Factor makeup booth at the supermarket, just last week and would've been drawn to the products if they were presented like this vintage box. Make-up kit for students? What a lovely idea!

I have no idea what the utensil at the bottom is for, but the pots and glass containers in the back are captivating ;)
