Una semana de inspiración, Día 7, las cosas que me han inspirado

Hoy es el último día de nuestra semana de inspiración, fue una buena semana y pensar en cosas que me inspiraran creo que me ayudó a tener nuevas ideas. Tenemos varios posts planeados y hoy para cerrar la semana les tengo cosas que he encontrado en diferentes lugares, que me gustan y me inspiran.

Today is the last day of inspiration week, it's been great and to finish it I picked a few of the things that got me inspired this past week. 

1.   Tall socks and legwarmers, free people. 

¿Recuerdan que hace algunos posts escribí un post de que me gustaban los calcetines con tacones? Bueno pues me gustan los calcetines con lo que sea, y este post del  blog de Free People (que me gusta mucho) me hace querer vestirme así.

Remember my post about socks and high heels, well I also love socks with everything else, and this free people post is awesome.

2.  Kelli Murray's workspace. 

Los lugares de trabajo bonitos siempre son una inspiración.

Beautiful workspaces are always an inspiration. 

3. Garance Dore's notes on Fashion Week.

Es abrumador ponerse al corriente en las diferentes semanas de la moda, la verdad es que casi siempre acabo viendo las pasarelas que ya sé que me gustan y me doy una vuelta por blogs de street style que cubren afuera de los shows, pero siempre que veo las notas de Garance checo lo que me recomienda.

Getting up to date to what's happening in Fashion Week is very hard, I usually end up checking out the shows I always love and the street style blogs that cover the week, but Garance's notes on Fashion Week always make me want to check out what she recommends :)

4. Sesión de fotos en el bosque - Photo session in the woods 

Tomé unas fotos en el bosque y siento que son una despedida al verano.

I took some pictures in the woods as a farewell to summer.

 5. Nadinoo, new collection.

Una semana de inspiración Día 5: Ilustraciones y deseos

Día 5: Ilustraciones y deseos

Day 5: Illustrations and wishes 

Cuando era mucho más pequeña solía dibujar todo, cosas que me imaginaba, cosas que me gustaban y cosas que me gustaría tener. Como ahora tengo la suerte de que dibujar sea parte de mi trabajo me he empeñado en volver a dibujar constantemente (la meta es dibujar diario, aunque era mucho más fácil cuando iba a clases y estaba obligada a estar sentada varias horas seguidas). 

Y una de las cosas que me encantaba hacer era dibujar ropa que no tengo pero me gustaría tener, antes me sentaba a ver pasarelas y dibujaba a niñas usando las cosas que más me gustaban y las combinaba con otras. Ahora decidí hacer algo que vi en una revista japonesa en fotos, pero en dibujo: Un "capsule closet" que es básicamente una serie de prendas que puedas combinar entre ellas y cubran varias necesidades y se vean bien con la ropa que ya tienes. Y las prendas de arriba fueron las que decidí que me gustaría que existieran y tenerlas en mi casa. 

When I was younger I used to draw daily (being forced to stay on my seat, at school, for many hours straight),  and that is a habit I'd like to get back to. I'm lucky that my job now includes drawing and painting. One thing I loved to do back then was to watch shows at fashion week and pick some clothing pieces and draw them in girls matching them with different clothing. And what I did now is something I saw in a Japanese magazine, only they do it with pictures. They take what they call a "capsule wardrobe" or closet and pick pieces that work with one another and can also be incorporated with the things you already own in your wardrobe  So these are the pieces I came up with, that I wish existed and were in my possession. 

Otras cosas que he dibujado para mi trabajo (si no conocen las cosas que hago con mi socio Iván pueden verlas aqui: Loup), fueron un cuervo, para una encuadernación personalizada.

Other things I've been drawing include a raven for a good friend (we used this to make a book for her, you can see it in our facebook page: Loup)

Y 12 ilustraciones a color (y 12 en blanco y negro) botánicas, ahorita las estamos usando para encuadernaciones pero están a punto de salir nuestros calendarios y ¡estoy muy emocionada!

And 12 color (and 12 black and white) botanical illustrations. We are currently using them to make notebooks but we are about to release our 2014 calendar, and I'm super excited!

Una semana de inspiración: Día 3 Tips para una boda y lo que aprendí de mis fracasos

Hace algunas semanas fui a la hermosa boda de la hermosa prima de mi novio. Estuvo muy bonita y todas las invitadas - casi - usaron vestido largo menos yo. Obviamente no me vestí de acuerdo a la etiqueta (juro que no sabía y además soy una inexperta en bodas), y aunque no recomiendo eso, si recomiendo algunas cosas:

A few weeks ago I went to the beautiful wedding of my boyfriend's beautiful cousin. It was lovely and everyone wore a long dress -almost - except me.... I obviously didn't dress according to the dress code (I swear no one told me and I'm a wedding newbie), and I don't recommend that, but here are the things I do recommend you take!

1. Si quieres peinarte como nunca te has peinado o hacerlo tu solita, por amor de dios ¡PRACTICA! Yo pensé que iba a ser super fácil porque no tengo el pelo muy largo y no quería nada complicado, pero fue horrible, lo arruiné todo. Fracaso número dos. Logré arreglarlo un poco con ayuda y esconder lo peor con pasadores, pero en retrospectiva ojalá hubiera practicado más (sólo practiqué una vez), o pedido ayuda, o hubiera ido a un salón.

1. If you want to try a new hairstyle or style your hair on your own, PRACTICE! I thought it was simple, my hair isn't even that long, but man, I messed it up! I practiced only once because it took me forever to decide on a curling wand, and the first time was perfection, and on the actual day total chaos. I managed to tame it a bit and hide it with bobby pins but I wished I'd practiced more, asked for help or went to the hairdresser's.

2. Si es probable que te inviten a alguna boda o evento en el próximo año y no tienes mucho dinero o no quieres repetir vestidos, compra un vestido cuando estén las baratas, o en algún bazar y arreglalo. (Recuerden preguntar la etiqueta si ya conocen el evento) Este vestido me costó $250 pesos en Sfera y $90 pesos arreglarlo y ahora me queda perfecto, encontré mis zapatos en oferta pero recomiendo gastar más en zapatos y una bolsa que puedan combinar con varios de tus vestidos (¡mi bolsa costó más que el vestido y combina con todo lo que tengo y tiene una cadena para colgarla!).

2. If you are likely to be invited to an event in the upcoming year and you're on a budget, or you don't want to wear the same thing over and over again, I recommend buying a dress during sale season or in a thrift shop and altering it. This dress was $20 dollars, and I spent less than $10 altering the top half to fit me perfectly and that way I could spend a little more on some shoes and a bag that looks good with a lot of things I own. (Remember asking for the appropriate attire etiquette beforehand!)

3. Quería usar una bolsa tipo clutch así que no podía llevar muchas cosas, esto es lo que llevé:

-Lipstick (Clinique's Heftiest Hibiscus)

-Polvo/Powder (Rimmel's Stay Matte)

- Brocha retráctil, Retractible Brush

- Pasadores / Bobby Pins

- Celular / Cellphone

- IFE y dinero / I.D. Money

- Kleenex

- Aspirinas

3. It was very important for me to wear a clutch, so taking very few things was paramount, this was what I took:

Tal vez a alguien que tampoco tenga mucha experiencia en bodas encuentre estos tips útiles, ojalá tengan muy bonito día :)

Siempre me han encantado los bordados, pero últimamente me han inspirado muchísimo, tanto que empecé a bordar esta semana. Aquí les dejo algunos de los bordados que encontré por ahí y me inspiraron a empezar. 

I've always loved embroidery work, but lately It has inspired me a lot, so much that I started to embroider this week. Today i want to share some of the embroidery I found out there that inspired me to start my own work.

Me encanta que los bordados puedan ser usados en objetos tridimencionales como en el pájaro. O que se salgan del aro como en el primer bordado del mar. Me ha inspirado muchísimo todas las texturas que se pueden lograr con el hilo. La verdad no se nada de bordado aún, sólo invento cosas :p pero me encantaría aprender todas las puntadas complejas que hay. Me hace muy feliz dibujar con hilo.

I love that the embroidery can be used in three dimensional objects (like the embroidered bird). Or to take the form of the sea like in the first embroidery. All the textures that can be achieved with the thread inspired me so much. The truth is that I don´t know almost anything about embroidery : p but I'll love to learn all the complex stitches. But right now it makes just me happy to draw with thread (:

Día 1: Lectura para empezar el otoño

Day 1: Some reads for the beginning of Fall

Estoy leyendo Nine Stories de J.D. Salinger y cada vez que lo abro me pregunto ¿Porqué nunca lo había leído? Tengo estas ediciones de 1980 que son de mi mamá y siempre han estado en mi casa. Son viejas, las páginas son amarillentas (del color ideal, si me lo preguntan) y huelen muy dulce. En esta misma edición leí hace 10 años (santo dios), The Catcher in the Rye (el guardián en el centeno), desde entonces ya lo he leído dos veces y probablemente lo lea muchas más, pero caí en el error de concentrarme únicamente en él porque es conocido por todos y hay camisetas y menciones por doquier, dejando en la sombra a estos dos libros, pero ahora que por fin empecé estoy disfrutandolo muchísimo y la forma de escribir de Salinger es igual de maravillosa que en su libro más famoso. En cuanto acabe voy a empezar con Franny and Zooey. 

El libro Muji: un día me quedé en casa de un amigo en Puebla y en la mañana hojeé un libro que tenía acerca de Muji, y desde entonces quería un libro de Muji. Muji (para los que no conozcan) es una marca japonesa que ahora es un emporio internacional con montones de productos, yo tengo algunos (el recipiente con lapices de la foto es de Muji). Se distinguen por ser muy funcionales, ecológicos y minimalistas. En el libro hablan de la historia de la marca la evolución de sus productos y enseñan fotos de sus tiendas sus cosas y su publicidad (que es mi cosa favorita). Mi edición es nacional y no está tan completa como la que tenía mi amigo, pero aún así la estoy disfrutando mucho. 

El libro de abajo a la izquierda es una de las encuadernaciones que hacemos en Loup, mi pequeña empresa con un amigo.

I'm currently reading J. D. Salinger Nine Stories, and everytime I open it I ask myself "Why did I wait so long to read this?" I read Catcher in the Rye ten years ago (yikes!), and since then I've read it twice, but I got lost around the fame of that book and forgot to read the other works of Salinger. Now that I am, I'm enjoying them immensely and as soon as I finish Nine Stories I'll start with Franny and Zooey. I have all of these in 1980's editions and the pages are the perfect yellowy shade and they smell sweet and lovely.

I leafed through a book about Muji at a friend's house, and I've been looking for one ever since. He bought his book at the Moma, and I couldn't get that one, but instead found this national edition, and it covers some of the same topics (for those who don't know Muji is a japanese brand that is known for their minimalist aesthetics, practicality and eco approach, they do thousands of different products. The pencil case shown in the photo is from Muji), the brand's ad campaigns, product development and brand history. I am enjoying it quite a bit, and I specially love some of their advertisements.

The open book at the bottom is one of the notebooks we handmake for our small business  Loup. 

Compré un mueble específicamente para acomodar mi colección de revistas y volví a leer varias de mis favoritas: Esta es una de mis dos revistas "V" (en México no la venden :( ), me encanta la portada y que es enorme.

I've just bought a bookcase specifically for storing my magazine collection and while organizing them I re-read some of my favorites. I love V magazine (you can't get it in Mexico sadly), I love this cover and the fact that the issues are so big.

Cuando era chica pensaba que la revista Zink era lo máximo, y me encantaban las secciones de belleza como estas (2004)

When I was very young I thought Zink magazine was awesome, and my favorite editorials were beauty stories like the ones above. 

Mi revista favorita en el mundo mundial es Lula, y me imagino que de muchas otras personas también porque es hermosa y todo lo que escriben me interesa. La ropa, el maquillaje y la fotografía son todo lo que busco en una revista. Es un problema conseguirla pero siempre que se que alguien viaja se la encargo.

Lula my favorite magazine in the whole wide world, I'm sure a lot of girls share this preference, because it's beautiful. The clothes, makeup, hair and photography are everything I wish for in a magazine and everything they write about interests me. It is a pain to get it, but everytime I know of someone travelling I ask them to bring me back a copy.

Una revista que compraba religiosamente y lamenté tragicamente cuando fue cancelada fue ElleGirl  (también lamenté cuando dejaron de traer "W" a México). Creí que tantos años después de leerlas por primera vez, iba a pensar que eran feas o que no eran tan divertidas como recordaba, ¡pero no es cierto! Son lo máximo, es una lástima que la hayan cancelado y que si debo decirlo que buen gusto tenía para revistas de adolescentes cuando era yo una de ellas :p 

Lo que más me gusta de la revista es cómo está escrita, hay muchísimas cosas chistosas, se burlaban de los clichés, escribían sobre cosas que ninguna otra revista de moda escribía y su slogan era "atrevete a ser diferente" Y bueno podría seguir hablando de sus méritos pero esto se está haciendo muy largo, mejor les explico que la foto es la lista de deseos de las editoras y junto a cada elección hay una pequeña ilustración que retrata a quien lo eligió y junto con una pequeña descripción del objeto.

I was an avid follower of ElleGirl magazine back in the day, and I was devastated the day it was cancelled. I thought maybe today I wouldn't found it as interesting, but it seriously was the best teen magazine I've ever seen, it had a great sense of humor, and they were so original and talked about things no one else talked about! (their slogan was 'Dare to be different') The spread above is the editor's wishlist, where the editors chose an object or piece of clothing and beside a tiny illustration portrait of themselves said why they loved it, for example the pages above say "Finally a cute swimsuit my father and I can agree on" and "I just entered ballet lessons, so even if I high kick myself in the face I'll still look the part" beside the tutu, and "this sweater solves my lifelong dilemma of having to chose what color to wear" of the rainbow sweater. Isn't that great?

Esta revista es una revista japonesa que iba a tirar mi maestra de japonés (otra vez las buenas páginas amarillentas :). Es muy vieja y tiene unas fotos muy curiosas y estas ilustraciones de gatos que me encantan (el letrero verde dice "Los gatos son gatos después de todo").

This is a very old japanese magazine that my teacher wanted to throw away - those yellowy pages again! -  It has a most curious selection of pictures and these cat illustrations which I love (the green title says "Cats are cats after all")
