Cupcakes, cakes, and other sweet things

Primero que nada, gracias a todas las que me felicitaron en mi cumpleaños, siempre me hace feliz leer comentarios y más si vienen en forma de felicitación. 

 
Well, today I´m here to tell you a little bit of another small business that truly came out of nowhere. As you may know (and in case you don't) I have a small "shop"called Cajita de albaricoque (little box of apricot), I started about three years ago. I sell things that I make with yarn, felt and fabric, mostly crocheted creatures. You can see some of the stuff here or on my facebook page.  

And I recently started another business with two of my friends, Sandra is one of them (who writes this blog with me). We started a photography , design and invitations bussines. You can also see some of that here and here.
But a few weeks ago, I was planning how to raise money for another project that I had in mind. Three friends (who went to college with me) and I, decided to enter a craftshow to sell cupcakes, cakes and other sweet things. So we created "Cocoa & Cinnamon" . We planned everything in a week or so and this past weekend we went to the craftshow. I really do not know where this is going, because a third "business" is not something I've thought I would be doing. But I really enjoyed planning the whole image I wanted the brand to have and I love that we recieved such a positive response from the people that tasted our desserts.

Pues hoy me paso rápido por aquí para contarles un poco de otro pequeño negocio que la verdad es que surgió de la nada. Como sabrán ( y por si no lo saben) tengo un negocio llamado Cajita de albaricoque, que empecé más o menos hace 3 años en donde vendo cositas que hago tejidas, de crochet y de fieltro, pueden ver algunas cosas aquí o en mi pagina de facebook. Y hace poco inicie otro negocio con dos de mis amigos, Sandra es una de ellos (quien escribe este blog conmigo). Empezamos un negocio de fotografía, diseño e invitaciones. También pueden ver un poco de eso aquì y aquí. 

Pero hace unas semanas, planeando como recaudar dinero para un proyecto que tengo desde hace tiempo en mente, 3 amigas (que fueron conmigo a la univerdad) y yo decidimos meternos a un bazar a vender cupcakes, pasteles y cosas por el estilo. De ahí surgió "Cocoa & Canela", todo lo planeamos en una semana y el fin pasado estuvimos en el bazar, realmente no se a donde vaya ir esto, porque un tercer "negocio" no es algo que tuviera pensado hacer, pero me gustó mucho hacerlo, planear toda la imágen que quería que tuviera y recbir una respues positiva de la gente cuando probaba nuestros postres. I think someday (soon) I would like to write a post about my experience on selling handmade stuff, although I have a long way ahead of me, I think by now I've learned a thing or two, mostly about the craftshow experience.

Creo que un día me gustaría hacer un post de mi experiencia en estos negocios de las cosas hechas a mano, porque aunque me falta mucho camino por recorrer creo que hasta ahora si he aprendido una cosa o dos, sobre todo de la experiencia de los bazares.

It's been more than a week since our last post, and I've really missed blogging. Sandra's computer has been failing lately and I've been very busy and stressed out between my social service, my last semester (months) of college and the craft show (s). Sometimes I feel like I want to scream and cry my eyes out... (I can be a little dramatic sometimes). And blogging about silly things really help to distract me from screaming and crying :p

So here I am, writting about happy trivial stuff(: And showing you bits of my (busy) week(;

Ha pasado más de una semana desde nuestro último post, y he extrañado mucho escribir aquí. La computadora de Sandra ha estado fallando y yo he estado muy ocupado y estresada, entre mi servicio social, mi último semestre (meses) de universidad y el (los) bazar (es). A veces siento que quiero gritar y llorar hasta que se sequen mis ojos ... (Si, puedo ser un poco dramática a veces). Y el escribir sobre cosas tontas realmente me ayuda a distraerme de gritar y llorar :p
Así que aquí estoy de nuevo, escribiendo sobre cosas triviales y felices(:

 Today I want to share a little bit about my work, I've done it in the past with my first craft show experience. But now, many craft shows later, I think It's time to share what I´ve been doing lately.

Hoy les quiero enseñar un poco de lo que hago (mi trabajo). Ya lo he hecho en el pasado cuando les compartí mi primera experiencia en un bazar. Pero ahora, muchos bazares más tarde, creo que es tiempo de enseñar lo que he estado haciendo últimamente. 

I wanted to show you this cowl since december, but I never did for one reason or another. Now that the weather is warm, here it is :p

Había querido enseñarles esta cuellera desde diciembre, pero por una razón u otra nunca lo hice. Ahora que hace un calor infernal, aqui está :p

It's been ages since the last time I wrote a post, or at least  that's what it seems to me :p (I tend to exaggerate a bit...) . Anyway, Sandra and I had a "blog meeting" this week and we are planning on changing a few things around here, so... what can you expect from our little blog from now on? 1. a new design ( we are working on it;) 2. More posts. We know that we've been neglecting our blog, but we are going to dedicate more time from now on, because this is something that we both love to do(: 3. New features! yay!:p 4. And soon, our first (awesome) giveaway!

Han pasado años desde la última vez que escribí un post, o al menos eso es lo que me parece :p ( pero tiendo a exagerar un poco...). En fin, Sandra y yo tuvimos una "reunión de blog" esta semana, y estamos planeando cambiar algunas cosas por aquí, así que...¿qué se puede esperar de nuestro pequeño blog de ahora en adelante?

1. Un nuevo diseño ( estamos trabajando en el;) 2. Más posts. Sabemos que hemos estado descuidando el blog, pero hemos decidido dedicarle más tiempo de ahora en adelante, ya que es algo que disfrutamos hacer(: 3. ¡Más secciones! ¡Yey!:p 4. Muy pronto, ¡nuestro primer (espectacular) giveaway!...y no se como traducir "giveaway", ¿será regalo? ¿rifa?, si alguien sabe, ilumineme.

On other things, I've been to a lot of craft shows lately, well...only two, and one next month, but thats one per month! and that´s a lot for me:p So, I´ve been knitting like crazy, so I thought  I could show you a little bit of what I´ve been up to(:

En otras cosas, he estado yendo a muchos bazares útimamente, bueno...sólo dos, y uno el mes que viene. !Pero eso hace que sea uno por mes! y eso es mucho para mi:p Así que he estado tejiendo como loca, así que pensé que podría mostrarles un poco de lo que he estado haciendo(;

My first craft show and one more
Mi pimer bazar y otro más

 

Today I will tell you the story of my first craft show, but to tell that story properly, I should write a little about Cajita de Albaricoque, so I’ll start from there.

Cajita de Albaricoque (which means little box of apricot), is the name of my brand of handmade things. It started two years ago when I began to knit bunnies and octopuses, after that I continued with different animals, plants and even zombies (;

I then added some accessories and coinbags (coin monsters). And so it began.

Hoy les voy a contar la historia de mi primer bazar, pero para contar esa historia primero tendría que hablarles un poco de Cajita de albaricoque, así que empezaré por ahí.

Cajita de albaricoque es la marca de las cosas que hago, la empecé hace casi dos años atrás cuando empecé a tejer conejos y pulpos, después se les unieron otros animales, plantas y hasta zombies(;
Empecé también a hacer accesorios y monederos (monstruos del dinero). Así empezó.

A while back I began to dream about putting my name down and participating in a craft show, but I never did, I don’t know the reason why, maybe fear or insecurity; until this summer.

When summer came along, I didn’t have any money and I had to pay some debts.

Then I heard of a craft show held in Mexico City three weeks ahead.

 Desde hace mucho soñaba con inscribirme a un bazar, pero nunca lo había hecho, no se muy bien porque, tal vez por miedo o por inseguridad. Hasta éste verano.

Cuando llegó el verano no tenía nada de dinero y que pagar unas deudas. Entonces me enteré de un bazar que iba a haber en 3 semanas en la Ciudad de México.

 

 

I wanted to get in, but how? I didn’t have any money, I had to pay my school in a week’s time, the craft show opened in three, I hadn’t done anything to show and I didn’t have any materials to do it with.

Besides the fee to enter the craft show was the same amount I owed at school… thinks didn’t look good. They didn’t look good at all.

Quería entrar, ¿pero cómo? No tenía dinero, tenía que pagar mi escuela en una semana, el bazar era en tres, no tenía hecho nada y no tenía materiales para hacerlo tampoco.  Además la entrada al bazar costaba lo mismo que lo que debía de la escuela...las cosas no pintaban nada bien.

And then I thought of something! What if I did a price-drawing (I’m not sure if the normal word for it is raffle, I’ve never seen it written:p) of some of my things from Cajita de Albaricoque? That same day I began to design some tickets, and I began to broadcast it by all possible means. In one week I sold 100 tickets!

With the money I managed to buy materials and pay the fee to the craft show! I began to knit like crazy, and in the end it was a lot of work but it was totally worth it! I did well in the craft show and from having absolutely nothing, I managed to have enough to pay for school, re-invest, put my name for a second craft show and I gave myself a little reward (: 

 Entonces, se me ocurrió algo. ¿qué tal si hiciera una rifa de algunas cosas de Cajita de albaricoque?. Ese mismo día me puse a diseñar los boletos de la rifa y a anunciarla por todos los medios posibles. ¡En una semana y media ya había vendido 100 boletos!

 Compré materiales, me puse a tejer y a coser como loca y me inscribí al bazaar! Fue mucho trabajo pero valió la pena. Me fue muy bien en el bazar, y de no tener un sólo peso logré tener lo suficiente para pagar mi escuela, reinvertir, inscribirme en un segundo bazar y darme un pequeño premio(:

This is the story of my craft show, and of how from nothing you can achieve a lot. I will be entering a third craft show soon and I’m planning to open an Etsy shop, that would really make me happy (:

 Esa es la pequeña historia de como logré entrar a mi primer bazar, y de como con nada, pero muchas ganas, se puede lograr mucho. Pronto entraré a mi tercer bazar y espero poder abrir también una tienda en Etsy, eso realmente me haría feliz(:
