How to make a gift box out of a piece of paper, 

super quick and easy.

Como hacer una caja de papel, rápido y fácil.

  

 This origami box is super easy to make and you can make it from any paper you have lying around, recycled or newspaper (I did that yesterday :) You can make just one open ended one and keep things in, or use to to use it as a gift box. If you are finishing you present wrapping late - like I am - this can be a useful little trick for small presents.

Esta cajita de origami es super fácil de hacer y se puede hacer con cualquier papel que tengas por ahí, hasta reciclado o periódico (yo hice eso ayer :) Y puedes hacer una sola sin tapa para guardar dos, o hacer dos y usarlas como cajita de regalo. Es ideal para regalitos pequeños, y si estas terminando de envolver regalos tarde (como yo), puedes usar esta idea.

 

After you get this grid from folding it, first horizontally then vertically, mark a square in the center of the grid (you can see below, the tiny dots I used as marks). Cut from the end of the paper towards the marks, vertically, following the line. You will have 4 slits. Fold them using the guide your folding has made as it's shown in the pictures.

Ya que estas en este paso y te quedó la cuadricula por los dobleces, marca un cuadro en el centro (en la foto de abajo se ven los puntitos que puse para marcarlo). Corta con unas tijeras, desde la orilla del papel hasta el punto, verticalmente, siguiendo la línea. Ahora debes de tener 4 cortes. Doblalos ayudandote de las marcas que se hicieron por los dobleces, se ve cómo en las fotos.

  

Done! Once you've folded all the corners in, the box should stand on its own. But you can tape it to make it a little more secure.

¡Listo! Ahora que ya están dobladas todas las esquinas debe de pararse sola, pero puedes usar cinta si quieres que quede más seguro.

If you make two boxes you can use one as the lid and one as the container. 

And it will end up looking like this :)

Si haces dos cajas puedes usar una de tapa y una de contenedor.

Y va a quedar algo como esto :)

My box collection.
Mi colección de cajas.

We thought it would be fun to share some of our collections! Specially since we love to read about other people's collections, in their blogs.
Ok, let's be honest here, they are not really collections, we just have a little too many of certain items. But we think it sounds nicer to say you are a little bit of a collector, instead of admitting you're in the process of becoming a perfect guest for 'The Hoarders' in years to come. 
 Pensamos que sería divertido compartirles algunas de nuestras colecciones. En especial porque nos encanta leer en otros blogs, acerca de las cosas que coleccionan otras personas.
Ok, seamos sinceros, no son realmente colecciones, la verdad es que tenemos un exceso de algunos objetos y preferimos considerarnos una especie de coleccionistas a admitir que probablemente en algunos años seremos invitadas a un capitulo de "Los acumuladores". 

Anyways, I thought I'd start up with my box collection. I've had a few of them from quite some time, but it wasn't until recently that I began to consciously look for them. I keep all manner of boxes and keep different things inside them, it doesn't have a system to it or anything, but making this post made me think a little more about it and maybe I'll re-arrange their contents soon. But their current state is this:
En fin, creí que era buena idea empezar por mi colección de cajas. Tengo algunas desde hace mucho tiempo, pero es desde hace poco que empece a guardarlas conscientemente. Guardo todo tipo de cajas y dentro de ellas también guardo todo tiepo de cosas. No tengo un sistema para organizarlas ni nada parecido, pero haciendo este post, tal vez me insipiré a organizarlas más especificamente. Por el momento están así:

My paper boxes, they are both from Japan. I keep sequins inside apparently (don't ask), and the one on the right is the box that came with this beautiful paper doll :) 

Mis cajas de papel. Las dos son de Japón y en la de la izquierda aparenetemente guardo lentejuelas (no pregunten), y en la de la derecha no guardo nada porque es la cajita donde venía esta linda muñequita de papel.

• The boxes on top are fairly new, I keep postcards in the first one (as you can see I'm very popular in the postal world...not. But I'm hoping that my friends that live away from home will want to catch up via real mail anytime). The postcard on top is an awesome postcard of a Bruce Weber picture, that my best friend brought me from Sweden.
• The second one is a box that came with a set of cat mugs from the Met and I keep polaroids inside!
• This are my oldest boxes, I believe the one with the flowers used to belong to my grandma, along with the flower mirror (which I LOVE!) and I use it to store all my CD thingies from my Anime Soundtrack CDs hahaha (the thingies are this paper strips that come attached to the CD inside of the plastic packaging to prove they are original, in case you weren't a super otaku in the 90s and 00s ;)
• And Last the one on the right, is, as you can see, a chess board from the days of yore when I used to play chess with my dad, decades have passed. It is now used to store some random coins and the few pieces that are left.
• Las cajas de la foto de arriba son relativamente nuevas, en la de la izquierda guardo postales (como vean soy muy popular por correo .... no en realidad. Pero tengo esperanzas de que todos mis amigos que viven en el extranjero me quieran escribir un día de estos).  La postal que se ve me la trajo mi mejor amigo de Suecia y es una foto de Bruce Weber.
• La segunda es la caja que vino con un juego de tazas con gatos dibujados, es del Met y la uso para guardar Polaroids.
• Estas son mis cajas más viejas, creo que la de flores y el espejo solían ser de mi abuela (me encanta ese espejo), y lo uso para guardar todos esos papelitos que son las cositas que venían con los cds originales de soundtracks de anime (las cositas, son una manguita de papel que venía adentro del plástico para demostrar que eran originales, en caso de que no lo supieras porque no eras una super otaku en los 90s y 2000s ;p)
• Y la última era como podrán ver, un tablero de ajedrez de cuando jugaba con mi papá (han pasado décadas desde entonces). Ahora lo uso para guardar monedas y las piezas que quedan.

 

To continue with the sentimental category, these are the boxes that were made by my mom.

• The one on top is my jewelery box, I keep rings and small earrings there.
• On the left, my other jewelery box, for bigger less fancy things
• This box I keep at my desk, and I keep some random desk stuff there

Para continuar con la categoría sentimental, estas son las cajas que hizo mi mamá para mi.

•  La de hasta arriba es una caja que uso para guardar mis aretes pequeños y anillos.
• La de la izquierda abajo la uso para guardar mis collares.
• Y la de la derecha la tengo en mi escritorio y guarda cosas de papeleria.

 

These wooden boxes are my favorite of all the boxes. 

• From the second picture (from top to bottom), my mom gave me this box to keep my fancy make-up (not really fancy, just some MAC stuff and Nars), after an episode involving somebody who dropped my retrospeck eyeshadow and smashing it, not just smashing it, destroying it so completely that the remains were thrown directly in the trashcan. The drama that followed was the inspiration for finding this box. I keep this beautiful notebook inside it as well.
• This beautiful box is Japanese and I do not have the key (which I hate, otherwise it'd be my secret box ;), it holds my mom's glass bracelet, some dollar bills, and two film strip, one from Mexico's premiere of the movie Babel, and one from Laputa which I got at Studio Ghibli ♥
 

Estas cajas de madera son mis favoritas

• A partir de la segunda foto (de arriba para abajo), esta caja me la dio mi mama para guardar mi maquillaje más caro (no es super caro ni nada, sólo son algunas cosas de MAC y Nars), después de un episodio involucrando a alguien rompiendo una de mis sombras, y tirandola a la basura, tras el drama....oh el drama, que siguió, mi mamá decidió darme esta caja para guardarlos. Junto con ese bonito cuaderno.
• Esta caja es japonesa, no tengo la llave (sino sería mi caja secreta ;), es donde guardo el bracalete de vidrio de mi mamá, y un negativo de unas películas. Una es de la premiere de México de Babel y la otra es de Laputa y me la dieron cuando fui a Studio Ghibli♥

No estoy segura que guardo en esta caja.

From top left, a tarot box and a postcard box. The "B" box from the previous picture, the "2" box from the the other picture and the box where I put all my concert tickets in.
Desde arriba del lado izquierdo, son una caja de cartas de tarot y una de postales, luego es la caja "B" de la foto anterior, donde guardo la papelería. Luego es la caja "2" de la otra foto y por último la caja donde guardo mis boletos de conciertos.

 This is the "D" box I mentioned earlier.

Esta es la caja "D" que mencioné.

And most of my boxes are on top of my newest, and smallest book...shelf...thing, and I put a few creatures on top of them, the bunny and the fox are from Cajita de Albaricoque, the cats are made in Chiapas, they were a gift from my boyfriend and the chubby doll is a present from Santander :)
Y la mayoría de las cajas las tengo hasta arriba de este mueble, que es mi librero más reciente y más pequeño. Encima tengo acomodadas unas criaturas, el conejo y el zorro son de Cajita de Albaricoque, los gatos son de Chiapas y me los regaló mi novio y la muñequita redonda es también un regalo de Santander.

These are a few things that have come into my life and I think they are awesome!

Above is a very old Scribe notebook (they don't make them like that anymore): Carmila bought it for me and covered it with this cute fabric. I love it, and the flower on top was kept and given to me by a very good friend as well :)

Estas son algunas cosas que han llegado a mi vida y son lo máximo:

Arriba está un cuaderno Scribe muy viejo (ya no los hacen así): Carmila lo compró y lo forró para mí con esta tela bonita. Me encanta! Y la flor que tiene encima la guardó y me la regaló un muy buen amigo :)

  I bought this Totoro pin at a comic convention.

Compré este pin de Totoro en una convención de comics.

  I bought an album frame in New York, and now I regret not buying more! I have it on my wall currently displaying U2's October cover. 

Compré un marco para discos de vinilo en Nueva York y ahora me arrepiento de no haber comprado más! En este momento está colgado en mi pared enmarcando October de U2.

 

 My Catryoshka t-shirt!!! It is my new favorite t-shirt (along with my wolf t-shirts of course). It is the perfect color, I adore Matryoshkas and I don't need to mention my love for all cat things.

¡¡Mi camiseta de Catryoshkas!! Es mi nueva camiseta favorita (junto con mis camisetas de lobos). Es del color ideal, me encantan las Matryoshkas y creo que sobra decir que me amo las cosas de gatos.

My cute cat measuring cups ♥ So many people have asked me about them. I bought them at Urban Outfitters. And yes I am a little terrified of breaking them.

Mis hermosas tacitas medidoras de gato ♥ Mucha gente me ha preguntado por ellas. Las compré en Urban Outfitters. Y sí, sí me da mucho miedo romperlas.

 If I lived in the US, (or anywhere with a wider variety of magazines) I would consider myself lucky and unlucky. I bought Lula (finally!!! I hate having to read it online), Japanese Elle, Vogue and a magazine called Cinematic. They are great, but cost a lot of money. I would be super poor.

Si viviera en Estados Unidos (o en cualquier lugar con una mayor variedad de revistas), me consideraria afortunada y desafortunada. Compré Lula (por fin!!!! odio tener que leerla en linea), las ediciones japonesas de Vogue y Elle, y una revista que se llama Cinematic. Me gustan mucho, pero cuestan mucho también. Sería super pobre.

I wear this American Eagle necklace almost every day and my friend Ivan told me he thinks it looks like a bunch of black or raspberries, and I love that :)

Uso este collar de American Eagle casi diario y mi amigo Iván me dijo que parecen un bonche de zarzamoras o frambuesas, y eso me gusta :)

 

I am obsessed with the Penguin classic editions (aren't we all?) and I've had Wuthering Heights (because it's my favorite book) for a couple of years but now I have three more! 

Estoy obsesionada con las ediciones clásicas de Penguin (¿no lo estamos todos?), y he tenido Cumbres Borrascosas por un par de años porque es mi libro favorito, pero ahora tengo otros tres!

 An artbook of John William Waterhouse's work. Too good to be true. (Look at Melocoton's nose behind, so pink! :3)

Un libro de las pinturas de John William Waterhouse. Es demasiado bueno para ser verdad. (Miren la nariz de melocton allá atrás, super rosita! :3)

 This beautiful fabric-covered box (where I now keep my small treasures), is beyond great and my friend Rapha gave it to me after he found it in New York in... (drum-roll please!): The garbage. Yup. And that was not the only awesome thing we took out of the garbage during our trip. This box was practically new, what is wrong with people!!!! But yay for me :D

Esta hermosa caja forrada en tela (donde ahora guardo mis pequeños tesoros), es lo mejor y mi amigo Rapha me la regaló después de encontrarla en Nueva York en.... (pausa dramatica): La basura. Sip. Y esa no fue la única cosa buena que encontramos durante el viaje dentro de la basura. Esta caja esta practicamente nueva, que le pasa a la gente!? Pero que bien por mi :D
